Liu Xintao
Liu Xintao is like a photographer working at night, crossing the whole city with camera in hand. On observing a goal, he would immediately raise the camera, carefully adjust the lens setting and distance, and finally compose the scene in the viewfinder. His pictures are strikingly vivid, like what is still happening. Yet, it’s merely virtual, still with distance from the reality, which is hard to perceive.
The coordination and combination between reality and virtuality are based on Liu’s dependent meditation on an ideal city. In using colors as black, white and grey, techniques as flowing, painting and scrawling are properly adopted; the white area in the picture is just like the break at the brim of the city. By skillful use of light, pictures become livelier and fresh .From the scene afar, from the corner, or from the viewfinder, light serves as means to promote the atmosphere on the pictures, during the transition from shining light to dark colors, the use of subtle grey especially shows the artist’s wonderful techniques. To feel the corruption of a city just begins from visual indication to spiritual meditation.
